2D Laser Cutting

We provide the quality of service essential to produce the highest standard of 2D laser cutting in Dandenong and across Melbourne. Advanced Cutting Technology’s 2D Laser cutting is applied for different kinds of materials where complex contours demand precise, fast and force-free processing. Our Lasers create narrow kerfs and thus achieve high precision cuts for any project. This method does not show any distortion and in many cases post processing is not necessary as the component is subject to only little heat input and can mostly be cut dross free.

Almost all kinds of metals can be laser cut: mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum are the most common applications. Other laser cut parts are made from wood, plastics, glass and ceramics. Compared to alternative techniques like die cutting, 2D laser cutting is cost efficient for small or big batch production. The greatest benefit of laser cutting is the localised laser energy input providing small focal diameters, small kerf widths, high feed rate and minimal heat input. Our 2D laser cutting service is our most popular service at Advanced Cutting Technology. Often referred to as either flat sheet or profile cutting, each of our three laser cutting machines can successfully cut designs with ease. Our machines are capable to cut material into every two dimensional shape imaginable!

What is 2d laser cutting?

Essentially, 2D Laser cutting is a series of mirrors and lenses that direct and focus a high energy beam of light onto the surface of the sheet or material that is to be cut. When the beam strikes the surface, the energy of the beam melts and evaporates the metal underneath. Any remaining molten metal or vapor is blown away from the cut by a stream of gas. The position of the laser beam relative to the sheet is precisely controlled to allow the laser to follow the desired cutting path.

With multiple 2D laser cutting machines and over 40 years combined experience, our skilled staff deliver results you’re sure to be pleased with. The range and capability of our laser cutting equipment is virtually unlimited. We can laser cut a diverse range of materials including mild steel, high carbon steel, wood and board, aluminium, acrylic, polypropylene and titanium to name a few. We can also cut stainless steel with nitrogen to give a clean, bright cut with an oxide free edge, ready for welding.

FAQs

What is laser cutting?

CO₂ laser technology directs a high-powered laser to cut and engrave flat surfaces such as wood, plastics and paper. The technology can be controlled via a multitude of vector based computer programs.

Can you help me with my design?

We provide both design and file preparation services. Drop us a line to see how we can assist.

How long does it take?

Standard laser cutting turn around is less than a week. Any digitising, design work, artwork changes, sourcing of off site materials or particularly large jobs will add to the turnaround time. Turn around times will be confirmed during the quoting process Delays may be experienced at times, we will inform you of delays in a timely manner
